ABOUT THE ARTIST

Hello! I’m Alisson, the artist behind Alicalidesigns!

As a mixed Filipino American that moved around a lot as a kid, art became a safe space to express myself and feel comforted in the ever changing environment around me. Anime from the 90’s, fairytales, comics and graphic novels all heavily influenced my art. I spent many hours drawing own characters and creating stories about worlds where anything was possible.

Be your own hero

While I was working on my BFA in Media Arts & Animation, I joined the Navy reserves and served for 6 years. I also played Roller Derby for over 10 years, as a skater, team captain, board member and coach. I combined my leadership skills with creativity and started teaching art to people of all ages in studios and classrooms.

I left teaching in 2020 and now find my art as my own spiritual practice and therapy. I love to use bold color and expressive lines to reflect a deep exploration of emotions. Some art I make it just an exercise to get thoughts and feelings out of my head and heart onto paper or canvas. Other pieces I make are meant to invite viewers to interpret and connect with their own personal narratives. I believe in the transformative power of art to inspire, heal, and connect individuals across cultures and communities. I create as a way to express myself and play which allows me to explore new artistic directions and expand my creative horizons. I believe all forms of art are valid and part of our nature as humans.
